Did you know that the front door is the focal point of the home’s front exterior? Yep, it plays center stage for the buyer’s focus & attention. The condition, presentation and charm of your front door says a bunch about your home, both inside and out. With a few easy steps you can create a gateway to your home filled with happy & memorable vibes.

1. The power of paint – oh my!

Whether it’s a refresh on stain/varnish, or a new & trending hue of paint, it’s probably time to grab the brush and get busy spreading color (& sunshine!) to your front door.  Some new & noteworthy shades we’ve recently discovered (See source list below):

  • Medium blue:  BM Newburyport Blue, BM Admiral Blue

  • Light blue:  BM Winter Lake, BM Soft Sky

  • Black:  SW Iron Ore, Valspar Dark Kettle

  • Gold:  SW Forsythia, Dulux Spring Breeze

  • Orange/red:  F & B Charlotte’s Locks, BM Topaz

  • Soft gray:  BM Copley Grey, Behr Loft Space

2. Can you count to 10?!

No math needed for this tip – just new house numbers installed vertically near the front door. We love simple Mid-Century designs in black or gold. Be sure they’re large enough to be visible from the street. See West Elm’s Modernist design or Etsy’s GoHomeNumbers Modern House Numbers.

3. Leave the Light On

Dusk-time drive-bys won’t see much to love without a trendy porch light glowing up your front door.   Modern, industrial or cottage styles in matte black finishes all create a warm welcome to your entrance.  Whether you go for a cylinder, tapered, rectangle or scalloped shaped- sconce please don’t forget to leave that porch light on!

4. Yes please to welcome mats!

As buyers (& visitors) wait at the front door to enter your home, nothing says “welcome - glad you’re here!” like a colorful & inviting welcome mat at the door. Whether it actually says welcome or is just super cheerful, it definitely needs to be newish & cute-ish. Pack up those personalized mats with initials or names (no dogs either!) and save for the new house.

5. Seasonal Color!

Did we mention how much we love seasonal color in a bright pot next to the door?!  Okay, maybe once or twice.  But, you gotta agree – colorful plants at the front door speak “happy” without saying a word!

6. The Finishing Touch.

Like delicious icing on a favorite cake, be sure to add the final touch to your door – a simple, fresh & natural wreath of preserved olive, boxwood or eucalyptus. No sprinkles needed (i.e. bows, artificial flowers, feathers)!

Remember . . . opportunity knocks but once.
Be (buyer) ready! 😊
